Ukrainian drones have for the first time attacked a distribution center of one of Russia’s largest supermarket chains, Lenta. After the strike, a fire broke out at the facility in the Leningrad region, and the warehouse temporarily stopped receiving goods.

Lenta warehouse suspended operations after attack

According to the Russian side, the drone crashed on the territory of the logistics center at around 5:00 a.m. The fire was extinguished for approximately four hours.

The company said one of its employees was hospitalized and its distribution center has temporarily stopped accepting products from suppliers. However, the chain claims that its stores have sufficient supplies of products.

Russian retailers fear new attacks

According to Bloomberg, after the attacks on the Wildberries and Ozon logistics centers, large Russian retail chains began to prepare for possible new attacks.

According to the agency, the management of Lenta and X5 Group, which owns the Pyaterochka and Perekrestok chains, appealed to the Russian government due to increasing risks.

Retailers are trying to restructure logistics: increase inventory at suppliers, use small warehouses more often instead of large logistics hubs, and change delivery schemes to reduce the consequences of possible attacks.

According to Kommersant, the Magnit and X5 chains have already offered some suppliers to deliver products to stores and distribution centers on their own.
