BREAKING NEWS: Ukraine already has drone-motherships for launching interceptors from water, land and air, – BI

Unmanned and manned platforms help deliver interceptors and FPV drones to operational depth.

Ukrainian army interceptor drones and FPV drones are becoming more functional and dangerous to the enemy as Ukraine increasingly uses carrier-launched technology. Aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles , manned aircraft, land-based and sea-based drones are becoming platforms for launching small UAVs, Business Insider writes .

The authors noted that naval drones are increasingly carrying additional devices both during attacks on Russian targets and when repelling Russian air attacks, becoming a kind of new type of coastal air defense.

“This approach allows Ukraine to strike or defend from greater distances, from less predictable directions, and using cheaper systems than traditional weapons,” the article explained.

Additional carrier platforms solve one of the main problems of using FPV drones – delivering them over long distances without losing battery power. They also help overcome obstacles and allow operators to be safe. It also carries an element of surprise, as it allows drones to be delivered to operational depth.

At the same time, in the maritime environment, carriers are currently used most often. In April, the first recorded fact of the destruction of a Russian “Shahed” by an interceptor launched from the sea was recorded. The authors quoted a representative of the Wild Hornets company, who believes that “sea drones are a practical platform for launching Sting, as they can help protect cities along the Black Sea.”

A representative of the Ministry of Defense’s GUR said that during one attack, Russian coast guard officers tried to stop a group of naval drones with small arms. However, FPV drones were launched from the platform, which surrounded the Russian servicemen and destroyed several of them.

As UNIAN reported, the Naval Forces demonstrated the operation of the Barracuda naval drone for the first time. It is involved in attacks on the positions of the invaders along with other unmanned systems. Also during the operation, reconnaissance and strike FPV drones were launched from a naval unmanned carrier. In a matter of minutes, the drones discovered camouflaged Russian positions, which became targets for precision strikes.

Recall that the Ukrainian military conducted a unique operation, which is already being called the world’s first combat landing of a ground robot from an unmanned sea boat. During the mission, the robot landed on the occupied coast , probably in the area of the Kinburn Spit, which has been occupied since 2022. After that, the robot opened fire on the enemy with a remotely controlled machine gun.

We should add that Ukraine is rapidly increasing the production of unmanned ground systems. If last year about 10 thousand such vehicles were manufactured, then in 2026 it is planned to produce 50 thousand.
