At the same time, the American president noted that he might have to think about additional tariffs on China “in two or three weeks.”

US President Donald Trump said in an interview with  Fox News after meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin that he has no plans to impose new sanctions against Russia and its trading partners.

Asked about secondary sanctions against Russia and China for buying Russian oil, Trump said:

“Because of what happened today, I don’t think we need to think about it for now. The meeting with Putin went well.

At the same time, the American president noted that he might have to think about additional tariffs on China “in two or three weeks.”

He boasted that Putin praised his economic successes, calling the US “hot as a cannon.”

Trump did not say what issues he disagreed with the Russian president on.

“I would prefer not to talk about it publicly. I think someone will say it publicly anyway, and they will sort it out,” the politician said.

According to Trump, Russia and China are “essentially natural enemies.”

“Russia has a huge territory, China has a huge population. China needs Russian territory,” he added.

Sanctions against Russia

Bloomberg previously reported that the US was considering imposing sanctions on Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil as part of a series of measures aimed at pushing Putin to accept a ceasefire with Ukraine.

It was noted that sanctions against two of Russia’s largest oil companies would be aimed at reducing the Kremlin’s energy revenues if the Alaska summit does not produce results.

Journalists wrote that other possibilities include introducing additional restrictions on Moscow’s shadow fleet of oil tankers and additional duties on buyers of Russian oil, including China.
