The American leader spoke out against extending the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.

US President Donald Trump claimed to have prevented nuclear wars around the world, including between Russia and Ukraine.

He made the corresponding statement on his social media account, Truth Social . In the post, he opposed extending the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between the US and Russia, proposing the creation of an alternative. 

“The United States is the most powerful country in the world. In my first term, I completely rebuilt our military, including new and many modernized nuclear weapons,” the American president said. 

Trump added that he had created the Space Force and was continuing to strengthen the American military “to levels the world has never seen.” 

“We’re even adding battleships 100 times more powerful than those that sailed the seas during World War II – the Iowa, the Missouri, the Alabama, and others. I’ve stopped the escalation of nuclear wars around the world between Pakistan and India, Iran and Israel, and Russia and Ukraine,” he continued.

According to Trump, instead of extending the New START Treaty, a new treaty should be developed that would remain in effect “for many years to come.” Trump called the treaty with Russia, which expired on February 5, “a poorly negotiated agreement by the United States, which, among other things, is being flagrantly violated.” Read also:

The Nuclear Arms Reduction Treaty, known as the New START Treaty or New START, was signed between the United States and Russia in 2010. The signatories were Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev. 

The treaty was set to expire on February 5. The Russian Foreign Ministry recently stated that after its expiration, Moscow will no longer consider itself bound by any obligations or symmetrical declarations related to the agreement.

However, as Axios reports, the US and Russia have held talks on New START . It was reported that the parties are close to an agreement, but the draft plan still requires final approval by the presidents of both countries.
