Several options were considered. One of them was an FPV drone, the other was a sniper complex.

Several assassination attempts were being planned against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy , but they were prevented, said Vasyl Malyuk, head of the Security Service of Ukraine, at a meeting with journalists.

“In particular, last year there was a very high-profile implementation. Colonel UDO, head of the State Security Department, was detained. These are the ones who are supposed to protect the top people in this country and this is their function,” he noted.

According to him, they were preparing an assassination attempt on Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“According to their criminal plan, they were looking for people and were supposed to implement it during his transition to the territory of the Office of the President of Ukraine,” Malyuk said.

Another colonel, with whom they worked at the FSBRF, namely the 5th service, which at that time was headed by Lieutenant General Beseda, also spoke about the detention of Colonel UDO.

“By the way, after this failure, Putin removed him, he remained an advisor in the FSB system,” Malyuk noted.

He said that the SBU carried out a difficult job.  

“We have been dealing with it for almost two years, essentially since the beginning of the war. We carried out a powerful intelligence and technical penetration into this group,” the head of the SBU emphasized.

He added that this group was preparing an assassination attempt on both Kyrylo Budanov and himself.

Malyuk said that an assassination attempt on Zelensky was being prepared, which was to be carried out in Poland. He said that it was prevented with the help of the Polish AWB (Agency for Own Security) – the analogue of the SBU in Poland, the so-called internal special service. Malyuk said:

“A military pensioner, a Pole, who was recruited decades ago and who firmly believed in the Soviet idea and nurtured the intention over the years. So, he – this “canned” – was activated. The task was: the physical elimination of President Zelensky at the Rzeszow airport. Several options were considered. One of them was an FPV drone, the other was a sniper complex.”

According to him, the potential perpetrator of the assassination attempt was detained together with his Polish colleagues.
