Putin called recently proposed changes to the US peace plan for Ukraine “absolutely unacceptable.”

A five-hour meeting in the Kremlin between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner ended without an agreement to end the war. Russia called the talks “useful” and “constructive,” but the key issue remains unresolved, The Wall Street Journal reports .

Putin adviser Yuri Ushakov, who attended the meeting, stated that the territorial issue is one of the most important for Moscow, but the parties have not yet been able to reach a compromise.

“Some of the American proposals appear more or less acceptable, although they need to be discussed. We are not satisfied with some of the proposed wording. Therefore, the work will continue,” he stated.Video of the day

The territorial issue became one of the main obstacles to an agreement. Russia demanded that Kyiv cede all of Donbas, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy refused to give up territories that Russia had not captured in nearly four years of fighting.

Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting, Putin accused European leaders of trying to prolong the war, calling recently proposed changes to the US peace plan for Ukraine “absolutely unacceptable.”

“All these changes are aimed at one thing – to block this entire peace process,” he said.

He added that Europe is mistaken if it thinks Russia can be strategically defeated. He also stated that Russia is prepared to fight Europe if attacked.

“We don’t plan to fight Europe; I’ve said this a hundred times. But if Europe wants to fight us and starts doing so, we’re ready right now,” the Russian leader declared.

These statements became one of Putin’s harshest criticisms of Europe, the WSJ notes.

At the same time, a senior NATO official dismissed Putin’s remarks about Europe, declaring that the alliance is united. According to the official, Russia lacks the troop numbers or military potential to defeat the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Europe.

Such multiple rounds of revision and change illustrate the difficulty of developing a plan that satisfies both sides, the WSJ writes.

On Tuesday, the Kremlin announced its readiness to consider the US proposal, but reiterated Russia’s long-standing position that any negotiated settlement of the conflict must be aimed at addressing its “root causes”—Moscow’s term for opposition to Ukraine’s pro-Western course and NATO’s eastward expansion.

  1. No surprise to the Ukrainians I’m sure.
Nato and the EU have two putler Trojan horses : Orbanistan and Ficostan.
They must both be declared hostile to both entities and removed.
Problem is that Orbanistan is now a component of the trumputler axis of evil.
Meaning that Krasnov would block their removal from Nato.
But there is no reason not to kick them out of the EU.
Because of the way EU financing works, poor countries become wealthy over time, once they have joined. Good examples are Hungary and Poland.
Some countries have learned how to manipulate the system to their advantage. Ireland was an absolute backwater until it joined the EU and started milking it.
Despite producing nothing (except Guinness, which is a Protestant product and company), Ireland has become one of the richest countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita.
Despite its enormous wealth, Ireland gave next to fuck all to Ukraine.
