Members of the European Parliament condemned the intrusion of Russian drones and the violation of EU airspace, calling for the creation of a “drone wall” and increased cooperation with Ukraine.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for a unified, coordinated EU response to Russia’s hybrid threats and provocations. The document condemns Moscow’s “reckless and escalatory actions,” including violations of the airspace of Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Romania, as well as drone attacks on critical infrastructure in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.

The MPs believe these actions are part of Russia’s “systematic military and hybrid war against the EU” and call on member states to respond jointly, in particular by creating a mechanism to quickly shoot down air threats.

The European Parliament supported the “drone wall” idea and the “Eastern Guardian” initiative, encouraging any initiative that enables the EU and its Member States to take “coordinated, uniform, and proportionate action against all violations of their airspace, including the downing of aerial threats.” Members note the need to strengthen civil-military coordination and equip authorities with modern counter-drone systems at critical sites such as airports, power plants, and transport hubs.

The resolution states:

“The EU must demonstrate resolve and signal that any third country that attempts to violate the sovereignty of a Member State will face immediate retaliation. MEPs also call on the Council and the Commission to strengthen the effectiveness and impact of sanctions against Russia to definitively undermine the country’s ability to continue its brutal war of aggression against Ukraine. Punitive measures should extend to all states that facilitate Russia’s actions, such as Belarus, Iran, and North Korea, and advocate sanctions against Chinese companies that supply dual-use goods and military equipment needed for the production of drones and missiles.”

The resolution specifically emphasizes the importance of strengthening defense cooperation with Ukraine, particularly in the area of drone technology and countermeasures. The European Parliament calls for the rapid adoption of legislation on the European Defense Industrial Program (EDIP) and the allocation of funding through the SAFE initiative for training and technical support to Ukraine.

The document was supported by 469 deputies, 97 voted against, and another 38 abstained.

  1. Instead of expelling more hot air, any country should protect their own airspace. No warnings, just shoot the fuckers down.
