A car carrying a Russian lieutenant colonel and his wife exploded in St. Petersburg.

This happened in the morning of August 27, in the Slovianka neighborhood. According to journalists, the man died on the spot, and the woman was hospitalized for intensive care.

The explosion occurred at around 10 a.m. near the “Magnit” store on Kolpinsky Highway. Previously, an improvised explosive device had detonated in a car.

The Geely crossover exploded immediately after starting the engine. The car was seriously damaged, and debris flew dozens of meters. The cause of the explosion and the identity of the deceased have not yet been officially established.

According to local media, a lieutenant colonel of the Russian army and his wife were previously in the car.

The explosion occurred in a neighborhood that was being actively developed as housing for the military. In 2010, Putin visited to inspect the apartments built for the military. By 2012, the Ministry of Defense owned almost a third of the housing being built in the area.
