On the night of September 12, Russia launched a ballistic missile attack on Zaporizhstal for the third time in the past month. According to Metinvest’s press service, four missiles hit the plant’s production site, which has yet to resume production following the previous strikes on August 11 and 27.

“This is already a systemic destruction of Ukraine’s civilian industry, its economic foundation, and the people who ensure its viability. The scale of destruction is growing with each strike. A definitive assessment is not yet possible, but we are preliminarily determining the damage as critical,” said Oleksandr Mironenko, Chief Operating Officer of the Metinvest Group.

The company noted that the latest enemy attack on Zaporizhstal damaged the primary and auxiliary equipment of the blast furnace and open-hearth shops, the plant’s power system and networks, and its logistics infrastructure. There were no casualties. Four plant employees sustained injuries of varying severity. Since the plant has been closed since the previous attacks, there is no threat of a man-made accident.

Work is currently ongoing at the plant to clean up the aftermath of the enemy strike and survey damaged facilities. This will help determine the nature and extent of the damage to the civilian facility.
