Trams and trolleybuses are not running in the city, and the infrastructure is damaged.

On the night of September 2, the Russian army launched a massive combined strike on Odessa, injuring many people and causing destruction. Today, Odessa celebrates City Day.

As an UNIAN correspondent reports, the airstrike was declared at around 2 a.m., and soon powerful explosions began in the city. Monitoring channels reported that the city was being attacked, in particular, with guided aerial bombs and “Banderol” drone missiles. People were also warned about a ballistic threat.

Local authorities asked the population to stay in shelters, as the city was under massive enemy attack. There was already information about damage to infrastructure and the destruction of residential buildings. Eyewitnesses wrote about fires on social networks.

“A difficult night for Odessa. The enemy has again launched a massive attack on the city. Infrastructure has been damaged. Currently, 8 victims are known, including a child. Two people have been hospitalized,” the official noted.

According to him, a 24-story residential building was damaged – apartments on several floors were destroyed. Windows were broken in nearby buildings. Cars were damaged. Office buildings and two educational institutions were also destroyed.

“Experts continue to assess the consequences of the attack in several areas of the city. Operational and utility services are working on the ground. Energy workers are trying to restore power supply as quickly as possible. Operational headquarters have been deployed where you can get the necessary assistance,” the official wrote.

The press service of the city hall specified that, according to preliminary data, 13 residential buildings were damaged in the Kyivskyi district of the city (over 600 windows were broken). The premises of two lyceums and offices in the Primorskyi district were also damaged.

Municipal services are cleaning the area and helping residents temporarily cover broken windows with OSB boards and film.

It was also reported that trams and trolleybuses were temporarily out of service in the city due to damage to infrastructure.

According to the press service of the city hall, as of 8 a.m., electric transport began to be released on certain routes. Residents were warned that trams and trolleybuses will operate on shortened routes for the time being.

For residents of the Peresypsky district, due to water supply interruptions, technical water has been delivered. It is said that from 09:00, tanker trucks will be located at 8 addresses: in Enthusiasts Park, on Akademik Zabolotny, Yaroslav Bais, Vladyslav Buvalkin, 28th Brigade, Semyon Paliya Streets, etc.

Updated at 8:50. Head of the Odessa Regional State Administration Oleg Kiper later clarified that the Russians targeted civilian and energy infrastructure. At one address, apartments from the 17th to the 23rd floors of a 24-story residential building and cars of local residents were damaged. Five people were injured here, including a 5-year-old child.

At other addresses, explosions damaged the facades and glazing of two high schools, a five-story business center, and warehouses – three people were injured.

The consequences of the attack are being eliminated on the ground. Due to damage to educational institutions, teaching has been temporarily organized in a remote format.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region, Russia shelled Odessa and the region throughout the night. In Odessa, office premises caught fire in the business center. A private enterprise, a summer house, transport were also damaged, and a gas station was completely destroyed. Fires also broke out in the area, which firefighters have already extinguished.

122 firefighters and 22 pieces of equipment were involved in the elimination of the consequences.
