Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has allowed occupiers to seize the homes of Ukrainians who fled their homes due to Russian aggression, The Moscow Times reports . This is yet another violation of international law by the Russian Federation.

The Russian ruler gave the occupation “authorities” in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia regions this right until 2030, signing a corresponding law . They are going to seize “residential buildings, apartments, and rooms that have signs of ownerless property” – they want to recognize them as the property of the regions or their municipalities.

At the same time, the lack of data on the owner of the property or the inability to identify him based on available documents will not be an obstacle to seizure.

How are they going to use the property of Ukrainians?

According to the signed document, housing stolen from Ukrainians can be cynically transferred to Russian citizens living in the occupied territories and who lost their homes “due to hostilities, sabotage, terrorist attacks or acts of aggression against the Russian Federation.” At the same time, “claimants” for other people’s apartments and houses must not have other real estate suitable for living.

Also, the houses of Ukrainians were allowed to be “allocated” as official housing for use by civil servants, military personnel, officials, law enforcement officers, teachers, and doctors. Local residents “who are registered as needing housing” can also be settled there. And after that, the way will be opened for them to privatize the property of Ukrainian citizens.

In addition, the property can be transferred to federal ownership, and then to the so-called “Territorial Development Fund.” It can rent out stolen housing, sell it, reduce the value and conduct closed deals without bidding.

“The law states about compensation that former owners of apartments and houses who have lost their property rights can claim. However, this applies only to those who have received Russian citizenship. The procedure for compensation will be determined by the occupation authorities,” the material states.
