Russia has strengthened legislation that allows for the deprivation of acquired citizenship, which is another step in systemic pressure on opponents of the regime.

This was reported by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports .
As noted, on July 17, the State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted a law that increases the number of articles of the Criminal Code under which deprivation of acquired citizenship is possible from 64 to 81. In particular, serious crimes were added to the list, as well as such vague formulations as “crimes with extremist motives” or “justification of terrorism and subversive activities.”
“The wording leaves room for arbitrary interpretation: the same sanctions can be applied to both persons convicted of violent crimes and users who posted an opposition post on social networks. Dozens of cases of deprivation of acquired citizenship have already been recorded – mainly among those convicted under “terrorist” and “extremist” articles,” the intelligence service said.
The SZR notes that the loss of citizenship in the Russian Federation means the loss of almost all basic rights. Stateless persons (stateless persons) do not have access to official employment, state healthcare, education, renting housing, obtaining a driver’s license or other state services. This turns a person into a legally “invisible” person and effectively ousts them from the country.
The Russian authorities claim that the new rules will not apply to residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine who have received Russian passports. However, according to the SZRU, residents of the “new regions” and even those who acquired citizenship at birth will be the next to be affected.
