Europe, Canada and Japan praise Trump for his intentions, but not for his results.

European leaders and non-European countries friendly to Ukraine have criticized the US “peace plan .” Their joint statement was published by the press service of the Council of the European Union.

Thus, Ukraine’s partners welcomed “the long-term US efforts aimed at ensuring peace in Ukraine.” They acknowledged that the 28-point plan contains “important elements” necessary for establishing a just and lasting peace. Therefore, in their view, the document can serve as a basis for further discussions. However, they also see a number of problems with the proposed agreement.

“We firmly adhere to the principle that borders cannot be changed by force. We are also concerned about the proposed restrictions on the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which would leave Ukraine vulnerable to future aggression,” the statement reads.

The leaders who signed the statement also noted that the plan’s provisions concerning the European Union and NATO will require separate consent from the member states of these organizations for their implementation.
