During decades of sanctions, Iran has achieved notable success in a number of manufacturing sectors. The most famous product it began supplying to Russia after its invasion of Ukraine was the Shahed drone. Now, electricity at Russian power plants will also be generated using Iranian equipment.

Iranian company MAPNA has just delivered its first advanced MGT-70 gas turbine to Russia as part of a 2022 agreement to export 40 such units, reports bne Intellinews, a publication specializing in developing economies.
The Iranian equipment is intended to replace Siemens turbines, which the German company has stopped supplying and servicing to Russia since the start of the war.
Gas turbines provide one of the primary methods of generating electricity at power plants, and also generate thermal energy (steam), increasing overall energy efficiency. Siemens was the main supplier of such equipment to Russia before the war. The Iranian shipment includes the turbine, generators, electrical equipment, and repair services.
