BREAKING NEWS: German Parliament Rejects Taurus Initiative and Increased Aid to Ukraine

The German parliament did not support the Greens’ initiative to transfer Taurus missiles, additional Patriot PAC-2s, and increased military aid to Ukraine.

As Censor.NET informs , this was reported by Ukrinform.

79 deputies voted in favor of the draft resolution entitled “End the Russian war against Ukraine – immediately further strengthen Ukraine in military and humanitarian dimensions.” 510 parliamentarians spoke against it, and one more abstained.

The Greens called for immediate action

Presenting the document, the head of the German-Ukrainian parliamentary group, Robin Wagener, stated that Russia is already preparing for a new wave of attacks against Ukraine, and Berlin must act more decisively.

He emphasized that during the last massive Russian attack, none of the 29 ballistic missiles were shot down due to a shortage of interceptor missiles, so Germany should increase production of PAC-2 missiles and strengthen the Ukrainian air defense system.

Wagener also criticized the government for delaying decisions on the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine and the fight against the Russian “shadow fleet.”

The document proposed:

  • immediately transfer Taurus missiles from Bundeswehr stocks to Ukraine;
  • expand support for Ukrainian long-range capabilities for strikes against military targets deep in the Russian rear;
  • increase production of Patriot PAC-2 interceptor missiles in Germany;
  • strengthen Ukrainian air defense;
  • increase humanitarian, energy and financial assistance;
  • intensify measures against the Russian “shadow fleet”.

The coalition supported Ukraine, but not the initiative

Representatives of the government factions CDU/CSU and SPD stated that they support Ukraine, but opposed the proposed resolution.

CDU/CSU MP Knut Abraham noted that Taurus missiles could be one element of German aid, but the decision to supply them should remain part of the government’s strategy.

His party colleague Tobias Winkler said that the document contains many reasonable proposals, but creates the false impression that Germany does not support Ukraine enough.

SPD representative Johannes Schraps emphasized that Berlin will continue to provide Ukraine with military, humanitarian, financial, and political support, and the corresponding funding is already provided for in the draft federal budget for 2027.

The ultra-right called for an end to aid to Ukraine

During the debate, deputies from the far-right Alternative for Germany party spoke out against further support for Kyiv.

AfD representative Markus Frohnmeier called for a halt to funding Ukraine, stating that Germany itself needs these funds.

In response, SPD MP Ralf Stegner accused the AfD of justifying Russian aggression and said the party was “confusing criminals and victims,” calling it “a disgrace for Germany.” Джерело: https://censor.net/ua/n4012595
