The Security Service confirmed that Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov’s Ukrainian citizenship was terminated due to his holding a valid Russian passport and published copies of the relevant documents.

This was reported by the press center of the SBU,  Censor.NET informs .

As the SBU has established, as of now, the current mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, is a citizen of the Russian Federation and holds a valid passport of the aggressor country. Copies of the relevant documents are at the disposal of the Ukrainian special services.

Thus, according to available data, on December 15, 2015, after the start of the aggression against Ukraine and the temporary occupation of Crimea, as well as parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Gennady Leonidovich Trukhanov received a Russian passport. It was issued for a period of 10 years and is currently a valid document .

As for the internal passport of the Russian Federation , according to available information, in 2017 Trukhanov’s representatives filed a petition with the Russian authorities, and as a result, a court in the Moscow region canceled the validity of his internal passport. However, additional explanations state that the cancellation or refusal of a person from such a document “does not entail the deprivation of Russian citizenship acquired by a person on a legal basis.”

Thus, Gennady Trukhanov still remains a citizen of the aggressor country. He also has an identification code that is displayed in the database of the “Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation.”

Earlier, the head of state stated that the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, reported on countering Russian agent networks and collaborators in frontline, border regions, and in the south of our country.

We remind you that the petition to terminate the citizenship of Ukraine of Gennady Trukhanov, published on the president’s website on October 13, has already received over 28 thousand votes – more than necessary for consideration by the head of state.

Earlier, Trukhanov said that he would be deprived of his Ukrainian passport .

The mayor of Odessa claims that he does not have Russian citizenship and has never had it. This is allegedly confirmed by a number of documents.
