Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has for the first time publicly recounted a conversation with a senior official in the German Chancellor’s office that took place on the eve of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

As Censor.NET reports, Johnson stated this in an interview with the School of War podcast.

“A senior official in the German Chancellor’s office told me before the invasion: wouldn’t it be better if everything happened quickly, the Ukrainians lost and that was the end of it? I categorically disagreed – and I still believe he was wrong,” the former prime minister said.

According to Johnson, this position reflected Berlin and Paris’ broader approach to the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Johnson criticized the policies of Germany and France

The former prime minister believes that after 2014, Germany and France perceived the conflict through the prism of the Normandy Format and tried to resolve it as a political dispute between the parties.

At the same time, according to Johnson, the UK warned allies about Russia’s preparations for a large-scale invasion. In particular, British intelligence allegedly recorded orders for Russian battalion tactical groups to advance to the front line.

Johnson also stated that Germany and Atodi did not agree on preventive sanctions against Russia, and Berlin’s military aid to Ukraine on the eve of the invasion was limited, in particular, to the supply of 5,000 helmets.

Johnson has not changed his position.

At the same time, the former prime minister admitted that after four and a half years of full-scale war and a huge number of victims and suffering, he understands why such a position could have arisen.

However, Johnson continues to believe it is wrong.
