Hot Take on Republican Congressional Response To Trump
Republican members in Congress are being asked to respond to America’s apparent side switch on the Russian invasion of Ukraine marked by President Trump’s attacks yesterday on the president of Ukraine:
(1) Blaming Ukraine for the war,
(2) Describing Zelensky as a dictator,
(3) Challenging the president of Ukraine’s legitimacy as an elected leader,
(4) Falsely claiming President Zelensky has only 4% public approval ratings,
(5) Intimating Ukraine misappropriated 50% of the resources given to them.
(6) Falsely alleging the U.S. gave Ukraine $350 Billion in dollars,
(7) Accusing President Zelensky for perpetuating the war,
(8) Attributing Ukrainian deaths and destruction to President Zelensky,
(9) Alleging Trump could have negotiated an end to the war at the beginning,
(10) Attacking President Zelensky for insisting on being part of the peace process, claiming he had three years to work it out on his own.
Everything is very fresh. More time is needed to see how things settle. Even so, there is enough response from Republican leaders in Congress to draw preliminary conclusions. Here is what we have learned:
- Many Appear Uncomfortable
There is a lot of hemming and hawing, sidestepping and clarifying concerning the president’s tactics of personal attacks on President Zelensky and publication of at least a half a dozen significant Russian disinformation points. - Some Responded by Attacking Putin
GOP Senator Roger Wicker, who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, responded by calling for Putin’s trial as a war criminal. He told reporters today: “Vladimir Putin has violated every tenant of international law and should be indicted and prosecuted and jailed, possibly executed”. - None Are Presently Willing to Criticize the President
At the moment Republicans are reluctant to show partisan division or disagreement. The “official” mantra is a repetition of President Trump’s talking points: “The war needs to end. The killing needs to stop. We believe President Trump can do this.” - Several Spin Today’s Events as a Strategic Tactic
Congressman Dan Crenshaw appeared on Pierce Morgan today and said that he is choosing to hope for the best, seeing this as a strategy chosen by Trump to lure Putin to the bargaining table. He was somewhat incredulous as he spoke, leaving viewers to conclude that he was having. hard time stomaching the words coming out of his mouth.
My Comment:
Every Republican Senator voted for Tulsi Gabbard for Director DNI. They knowingly voted to place a female version of Tucker Carlson as the most important information communicator in the world to President Trump. Daily the same Gabbard who claimed Putin was defending the word against evil biolabs in Ukraine, briefs Trump on Ukraine. These Senators who turned a blind eye to Gabbard’s Kremlin adjacent worldview, carry responsibility for at least some of the President’s disinformation rants.

The MAGA crowd are living in fear, the sort of fear the russians have about criticising putler. Someone is spoonfeeding Trump all this BS, and I can make a wild guess at who. Musk!
One of Ukraine’s most loathsome and vile enemies is now running US intel.
You could not make it up.
