U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with four congressional leaders on Tuesday to discuss, among other things, assistance to Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform, citing The Hill, Biden intends to emphasize “the urgency of passing the bipartisan national security supplemental and keeping the government open”.

Attendees will include Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).

Biden has for weeks been pleading with Congress to pass additional funding to support Ukraine in its war against Russia, warning that a failure to do so would be a historic failure that could threaten global and domestic security.

Earlier this month, the Senate approved national security funding that included funds for Ukraine, Israel, and Indo-Pacific allies, but Johnson made it clear once again that the bill would not be voted on in the House because it lacks provisions to protect against migrants from Mexico. Earlier, Johnson considered unacceptable a proposal that contained these provisions.

As reported, the White House accused Johnson of putting “his domestic policy above the security of the American people.

  1. My prediction: Nothing helpful will come out of this, it’s a huge waste of time. Johnson is deliberately trying to delay the issue, on orders by Trump. He’s afraid of a mutiny by pro-Ukrainian Republicans and thus tries to put up the pretense of negotiating in good faith. But he ain’t.
    😠

    • I agree Johnson is under allot of pressure. I’ve been told behind the scenes Johnson is under tremendous pressure from pro Ukrainian lobbies. He may not have a choice if a motion for discharge occurs which would definitely end his speakership. I think reality could force his hand.

      • Hmm, ok, Captain, but forced to chose between Trump and his pro-Ukrainian party members, I’m afraid Johnson won’t dare to go against his master’s wishes. Well, let’s see how this goes tomorrow.
Should the talks fail, I hope for an immediate discharge motion. There’s no time to be wasted.

        • You could be right but he’s caught in a bind. There hasn’t been a motion for a discharge I believe in a hundred years. Not sure he wants to be in that club
