We are talking about sanctions that were introduced back in 2014.

The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, extended the state of emergency introduced back in 2014 and the associated sanctions restrictions against the Russian Federation for another year .

This is evidenced by the decree of the American president, published on the White House website. It is noteworthy that the state of emergency in connection with Russian aggression against Ukraine was introduced on March 6, 2014 by then US President Barack Obama, after which it was extended several times.

Additional sanctions against the Russian Federation were also introduced in December 2014 and September 2018.

“The actions and policies addressed in these executive orders continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States of America. For this reason, the State of Emergency (…) must remain in effect after March 6, 2024,” it says in the decree.
