The European Union has banned goods vehicles from Belarus from entering its territory. This also applies to transit.

The corresponding decision was announced in a fresh document on “restrictive measures in connection with the situation in Belarus and Belarus’ involvement in Russian aggression against Ukraine” on the official website of the European Union.

The EU decided: “Any road transport enterprises established in Belarus are prohibited from transporting goods by road across the territory of the Union, including in transit.”

This means that not a single truck with Belarusian license plates can cross the borders with the EU countries. However, there are several exceptions. These include:

• Transportation to the EU of natural gas and oil, including refined products, as well as titanium, aluminium, copper, nickel, palladium and iron ore.
• Transportation of pharmaceutical, medical, agricultural and food products, including wheat and fertilizers, which are not subject to sanctions.
• Humanitarian causes and mail.
• Delivery of goods required for consular missions of the Union and Member States in Belarus, including delegations, embassies and representative offices, or international organizations in Belarus.

Recall that earlier a similar restriction was imposed on Russian road transport enterprises with the same exceptions. It was included in the fifth package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation.
