Spread of pro-Kremlin disinformation tries to conceal the true breadth and intentions behind Russia’s military build-up near Ukraine.
During the past couple of months numerous credible media outlets reported that Russia has deployed around 90,000 troops(opens in a new tab) and military assets in staging areas near to its border with Ukraine, referring both to official government sources(opens in a new tab) and mainstream media(opens in a new tab).
Such troop movements are not unheard of; we all might still remember a similar build-up that took place last April(opens in a new tab), which now looks like a dress rehearsal for the ongoing deployment. Nevertheless, this time both the official rhetoric and the bellicose talk on pro-Kremlin outlets make the situation far more worrisome from both Ukrainian and the Western perspectives.
Never believe anything until it is denied by pro-Kremlin outlets
Despite overwhelming and publicly available evidence from credible sources, pro-Kremlin outlets have denied the existence of any deployments and continued to spread the disinformation about their purely defensive motives and NATO provocations.
But should there be any deployments, in the twisted view of pro-Kremlin outlets, it is due to the imminent aggression expected from a Ukraine dominated by neo-nazis, who in a pro-Kremlin distortion have been trained by Western countries. Moreover, it is not Ukraine alone, but as per well-rehearsed disinformation lines, there is always the hidden hand of the United States and NATO, and their aggression and sinister motives behind the events.
Age-old disinformation narratives by pro-Kremlin outlets of an alleged betrayal concerning NATO enlargement to the East, Russia being the victim of so called “anti-Russian” rhetoric, and Russia being encircled by hostile forces have also been dusted off and put yet again to use to give a justification for the Russian military deployments, and possibly more.
Bad habits die hard
Talks about “spheres of influence” and “limited sovereignty of nations” to freely decide over their future and destiny, are yet another indicator of the Kremlin’s failure and inability to see history as it truly was, and draw the conclusions necessary to try not to repeat their old mistakes.
A re-evaluation of past wrongdoings could start, for example, by the Kremlin reaffirming the Russian commitment to “respect the independence and sovereignty and existing borders of Ukraine” and to “refrain from the threat or use of force” against Ukraine, as laid out in the Budapest Memorandum on security assurances(opens in a new tab).

Other notable pieces of disinformation:
- There is a propaganda campaign aimed at infecting the whole world with Omicron – No, there is no sinister “global elite” masterminding the fate of populations. This is a tinfoil hat conspiracy.
- Brussels blamed Minsk for the migration crisis, but the West is the only one responsible – Yet another attempt to shift the blame away from the Lukashenka regime’s manufacturing of a migrant crisis and its cynical instrumentalisation of people.
- Poland is the Anglo-Saxons’ fighting dog – No, Poland is a member of the European Union and NATO, and rightfully concerned about its security due to Russia’s aggressive behaviour.

Muscovy have dusted of this propaganda that often, they must have worn a fucking hole in the record by now.
I’m afraid putinazi propaganda works. As putler/aka Goebbells knows ; If you repeat a lie often enough it becomes a truth. Eg: the alleged promise about Nato. Here’s an exchange I had with some kremkrapper scum on the DT:
Smiley Fogg
JFKennedy threatened a world war if the Russians didn’t stop trying to build missile bases in Cuba, so close to the USA. He is still regarded as a great hero.
Putin does a JFK and he’s a scoundrel of the highest order, and the Russian people need to be severely punished.
As usual, no mention whatsoever about the promise given by GHWBush’s administration to MGorbachev that Nato would never expand ‘one inch’ to the East. We’ll just ignore that petty little detail, shall we?
My reply :
To Fogg: There was no such promise, you halfwit. Nato only exists because of Russian imperialism. It has been on Russia’s borders for decades: Alaska, Poland, Pribaltika. It is the Ukrainian people that are being “severely punished”, not Russians.
Fogg:
Your rudeness surely makes your argument the stronger, I’m sure. Takes a lot more to offend me, I’m afraid. I may be wrong in my understanding of the matter, and can only refer to a source in that regard: ’Not once, but three times, Baker tried out the “not one inch eastward” formula with Gorbachev in the February 9, 1990, meeting. He agreed with Gorbachev’s statement in response to the assurances that “NATO expansion is unacceptable.” Baker assured Gorbachev that “neither the President nor I intend to extract any unilateral advantages from the processes that are taking place,” and that the Americans understood that “not only for the Soviet Union but for other European countries as well it is important to have guarantees that if the United States keeps its presence in Germany within the framework of NATO, not an inch of NATO’s present military jurisdiction will spread in an eastern direction.” (See Document 6)’ https://nsarchive.gwu.edu/briefing-book/russia-programs/2017-12-12/nato-expansion-what-gorbachev-heard-western-leaders-early
My reply :
* No such promise was made, written or verbal. Gorbachev confirms it. https://www.brookings.edu/blog/up-front/2014/11/06/did-nato-promise-not-to-enlarge-gorbachev-says-no/ I was indeed rude to you, as I am to all Putin-lovers. How come you have so much sympathy for the little poisoner’s fascist regime, yet none for its victims? Did you not see the orgy of death and destruction inflicted upon innocent civilians in Georgia in 2008 and again on a much larger scale in Ukraine in 2014? The twisted brain of the little poisoner says: “if you join Nato, I will attack. If you don’t join, I will attack anyway.
Good responses, Sir Scradge! Unfortunately, none of us have the cure for stupidity in our daily battles with stupid people.
