Azerbaijani President Refused to Fly to Putin’s Parade

Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith also canceled his trip to Moscow.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev canceled plans to visit Moscow to participate in events on May 9 at the last minute .

Aliyev’s visit to the parade, which was agreed upon by Moscow and Baku back in March and was to be the first for the Azerbaijani president since 2015, will not take place, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on Wednesday.

“A message was received that Aliyev would not arrive, unfortunately. They explained that he had to take part in domestic events dedicated to Heydar Aliyev,” he said.

Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith also canceled his trip to Moscow. According to Ushakov, he fell ill with coronavirus.

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s plane has landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport, Rossiya-24 TV channel reported. The Chinese leader’s state visit will last until May 10. During the visit, Xi Jinping will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and take part in events on May 9.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has arrived in Moscow, Serbian newspaper Blic reports . He is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Putin on Friday and take part in May 9 celebrations.

It was previously reported that Latvia and Lithuania did not allow Vučić’s plane to fly through their airspace on its way to Russia.
