As of May 2026, 495 commercial companies whose members or co-owners are residents of the United Kingdom continue to operate in Russia.
This is evidenced by the results of the YouControl study.
Although the number of such businesses has significantly decreased compared to 2022 (then there were over 2,000), British capital is still present in the Russian economy.
Key areas and business geography
The largest share of British capital in Russia is concentrated in the service sectors.
The most popular areas are real estate rental and management, as well as IT, business consulting, construction, marketing, and wholesale of agricultural equipment .
According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities of the Russian Federation, the undisputed leader in the number of registrations is Moscow (308 companies), followed by St. Petersburg (44) and the Moscow Region (31).
In addition, analysts have recorded the registration of British “clones” of Ukrainian companies in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine – in Crimea, as well as in the Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhia regions.
Sanctions ties and international brands
The total authorized capital of the companies under study exceeds 59 billion rubles.
Many of them have been found to have ties to sanctioned individuals and the Kremlin regime’s entourage:
- sanctions and mining – shares in three major Russian mining companies belong to the sanctioned British Nord Gold PLC, linked to Russian oligarch Alexei Mordashov;
- ties to the Kremlin – Russian insurance companies of the Chubb group were managed by the alleged daughter of Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov;
- incomplete exit of brands – such international giants as Schneider Electric and the luxury holding LVMH (through the company “Europa Hotel”) have not yet completed their complete exit from the Russian Federation market.
- objects related to the Federal Security Service (FSB) – in the suburbs of St. Petersburg, a company with British capital owns a SPA hotel, and among its participants is the alleged sister of the first deputy director of the FSB, Sergei Korolev. Джерело: https://censor.net/n4014515

According to the ICC, supporters of war criminals face the same severe penalties as the primary offenders. Maybe some charges from the ICC would knock some of the greed out of them.
This is of course disgusting and vile. I’d have the directors all locked up and their assets given to Ukraine.
In the interests of balance though, large numbers of European outfits still operate too.
As for America, it is in a category of its own. The US chamber of commerce in Moscow is a vast putler-rimming machine whose boss is entirely without scruples.
