Following negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Turkey, US senators are once again calling on Congress to pass a bipartisan bill to impose new sanctions against Russia.

This is reported by Sky News . It is noted that at the meeting in Istanbul, the Russian delegation put forward conditions that a Ukrainian journalistic source called doomed to failure. In particular, it is a demand to “transfer” several Ukrainian regions to Russia.

Democratic US Senator Richard Blumenthal and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham have called for a vote on a bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia, which they introduced in April. The document envisages the introduction of a 500% tariff on imports into the US of goods from countries that continue to buy Russian energy resources.

“Putin will continue to resist ceasefire efforts until his economy takes a severe hit, isolating it on a financial island,” Richard Blumenthal stressed.

It is worth noting that the aforementioned bill currently has at least 73 co-sponsors in the chamber, which has a total of 100 members. It is not yet known when the document may be put to a vote.

Sanctions against Russia

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Senate had asked for a “pause” on the sanctions issue to see if progress could be made in the talks. He noted that Russia had already been told that if there was no progress in the talks, Congress would pass sanctions legislation.

Meanwhile, the European Union is planning to impose a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. A European official says it will be “the most extensive in history” and will cover four sanctions regimes at once: for the war in Ukraine, for human rights violations, for hybrid warfare, and for the use of chemical weapons.

How many more chances does this administration want to give the war criminal to see some progress??? Trump’s promised 24 hrs. are long over. He’s into his 15th week as POTUS and absolutely nothing has been done except more killings and destruction.
Rubio, you are just as pathetic as the rest of this incompetent administration.
