A criminal case has been opened in Moscow against a US citizen for using violence against a police officer (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code), Interfax reported, citing the Investigative Committee’s Moscow Office. The agency does not name the detainee.

Investigative Committee representative Yulia Ivanova said that the American was taken to the police station on the night of August 12 “in connection with his hooliganism.” According to investigators, the detainee refused to provide documents and used violence against a law enforcement officer. The Investigative Committee will ask the court to arrest the suspect.

The Moscow Department of Internal Affairs clarified that the US citizen was detained in one of the city’s hotels, where he allegedly behaved aggressively and used foul language.

“The man ignored the demands of the police officers who arrived at the scene to stop the illegal actions, so he was detained and taken to the department for further investigation,” said Vladimir Vasenin, a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow. According to him, the detainee hit a police officer at the OMVD for the Meshchansky District. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a protocol on petty hooliganism (Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) was also drawn up against the detainee.

According to an Interfax source, 46-year-old Joseph Tater was detained in Moscow ( the agency initially reported that the detainee’s name was Joseph Tager — Meduza’s note ). According to the agency, he tried to check into the Radisson Blu Olimpyiskiy Hotel, but was refused entry because the US citizen did not have a migration card, as well as because of his “aggressive behavior.” What this behavior was expressed in was not specified. Interfax only reports that the American “used obscene language in both Russian and English.” Later, the agency’s source claims, at the police station, the American “hit the employee on the forearm and pushed her,”

The first to report Tager’s detention were pro-Kremlin media and Telegram channels. In particular, the Telegram channel “112” published two videos with the detainee, whom it calls Josep Tager, from a police station cell. In the recording, Tager shouts that he did nothing and swears at the author of the video.

  1. No sympathy for any citizen of a civilised country going to the shithole, if they get arrested.
