HeadHunter: 29% of Russians work overtime every day or almost every day
Every or almost every day, 29% of Russians work overtime, another quarter – 2-3 times a week. The same number of respondents reported that they do not work overtime at all. Compensation for overtime is provided at the workplaces of half of Russians

Almost a third of Russians (29%) work overtime every or almost every day, according to the results of a survey conducted by the job search platform Head Hunter (available to RBC).
During the survey, respondents could select more than one answer. The study was conducted from August 15 to September 3, 2024 among 1,964 workers and applicants from all regions of the country.
About a quarter of respondents (23%) said that they work overtime 2-3 times a week. Another 12% noted that they work overtime at least once a week, 17% said that they do it a couple of times a month. The remaining 23% assured that they never work overtime.
85% of men and 77% of women work overtime either regularly or periodically. People aged 45 to 54 are most likely to work overtime; 88% of respondents in this group work overtime. In other age groups, from 18 to 55 years and older, the percentage of those working overtime is approximately the same – about 79-80% of the total number of respondents within each group.
Among the reasons for regular overtime, 46% of respondents named high season periods and heavy workload at work. 34% of respondents work more than required in the event of colleagues’ absence from work due to vacation or illness. Due to the complexity of internal processes and multitasking, 33% of respondents work overtime, another 25% do so due to high staff turnover, and 22% – due to a long search for an employee for the job. Every fifth respondent (20%) also named a lack of help from colleagues or management as a reason.
Almost half of respondents (48%) reported that their current place of work does not provide compensation for overtime. 37% receive compensation in cash, 14% can leave work early or come to work later the next day as compensation for hours worked over the norm. 10% receive an additional day off. Bonuses and other forms of compensation are provided by only 2% of respondents.
Also, every second person (49%) reported that overtime significantly affects their health. The respondents mainly complained about lack of sleep and chronic fatigue. A quarter of them (25%) noticed a decrease in their immunity, 20% faced an exacerbation of chronic diseases.
Every second person (46%) said that the consequence of frequent overtime is a lack of time to communicate with loved ones. 39% complained that they do not have enough time to pursue hobbies and education. 35% noted a lack of time for personal matters. 12% of respondents reported that they do not experience any inconvenience from overtime.
