“A stain on our country’s reputation”: Republicans comment on the leaked conversation with Whitkoff

Republicans condemned Trump’s special envoy’s attitude toward Russia.

Some Republican lawmakers have called on the US presidential administration to reverse course in response to a leaked conversation between Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff , and the Russian dictator’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, according to The Wall Street Journal .

“This is a serious problem. And one of many reasons why these pointless side shows and secret meetings must stop. Let Secretary of State Marco Rubio do his job fairly and objectively,” said Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) in the H.

Meanwhile, Congressman Don Bacon (R-Neb.), who has criticized the Trump administration for its handling of the negotiations, said the report shows Whitkoff should be removed. He said Trump’s special envoy “acts as if he’s on Russia’s payroll.”

“This entire incident is a fiasco and a stain on our country’s reputation. He needs to be fired,” Bacon urged.
