The border is a real issue, but not one that requires billions to fix. Israel is our ally who has been grievously wronged by Hamas, Iran and Russia, but does this well-armed nation really need billions at this time for their military?
And then there is Ukraine. Does Ukraine really need help?
Ukraine is the one nation in the world to whom the United States specifically promised to defend against Russian aggression in exchange for making themselves vulnerable by removing nukes. It is a nation which will lose cities, land, people, and possibly the war, without immediate support from the US.
Should Putin take Kyiv, his soldiers will make the Russian rape, torture and murder spree of Berlin in 1945 look like a walk in the park. This is not a guess. It is a predictable pattern. As part of the “denazification” mission (where Nazi is defined as anyone who opposes Putin) the conquered and dehumanized Ukrainian population will be subject to gulags, atrocities and executions at a scale not seen since WWII. There will be an information blackout in Ukraine by Moscow to hide the historic level of crimes and to silence opposition.
America and Europe will absorb the largest refugee crisis of the modern era. Tens of millions of Ukrainians will flee. They have seen Bucha. They know the graves of Mariupol. Sticking around means death. The cost to Europe and America will be staggering.
Ukraine will be annexed by Russia. Not willing to surrender, patriotic Ukrainians will mount an ongoing insurgency. Faced with aggression from Iran, China and North Korea, the West will abandon Ukraine altogether. Moldova, Estonia, and Finland will be next for Russia.
Millions of Russians will be sent to Ukraine to repopulate and plunder, as they have done in Crimea and the East. Speaking Ukrainian will become a punishable offense. Ukrainian culture will be deemed Nazi. The Russian Orthodox Church under KGB patriarch Kirill, who has already deemed anathema the orthodox outside of Moscow affiliation, will work with solders to persecute non Muscovite Christians, as they are presently doing in the East.
Having lost its moral compass, and disconnected from NATO, America will be a neutered laughingstock to the world – an enemy to our friends, a friend to our enemies.
So yes, shut the border. Yes, Hamas must be destroyed. But keep in mind that Russian warcrimes in Ukraine are very similar to Hamas in barbarity, but at a scale a 1000 times greater. Every week is October 7 in Ukraine. The border could be solved by reversing recent policies and following the law. Israel will advance against Hamas without military aid from the US. But without help, millions of our friends in Ukraine will be thrust into an apocalyptic reality within a year.
Someday, it will come back to bite the US with a fury that Americans are not yet ready to comprehend.
Mr Speaker, keep your promise. Take action.
How to Write and Think About Speaker Johnson
This is a unique moment. One man’s decision will influence the lives and deaths of millions. Should Speaker Johnson allow the House to vote on aid to Ukraine, it is likely that the bill will pass. The implication of aid to Ukraine at this precise moment is far reaching. Ammunition and artillery shells are already being rationed creating a dangerous artillery and maneuver disadvantage for Ukraine. The fall of Avdiivka is one of many examples. Lack of military aid to Ukraine at this already late moment will not only prevent Ukraine from attacking Russian positions, but likely lead to more territorial losses, constriction of their ability to fight, and an avoidable lengthening of the war.
If this aid is sent, thousands of lives will be saved. Putin could be prevented from advancing and securing the occupied territories. Russia, Iran, and Hamas will know that American resolve has not been extinguished. A message will be sent to China to think twice before creating a global crisis with an invasion of Taiwan. The reputation and honor of the United States grounded in our international commitments, treaties and promises could remain salvageable.
With this in mind I offer some fresh thinking for those who find themselves angry and submerged in a world of partisan animosity. Unlike many in DC, Speaker Johnson is a decent man. He is not an implicit enemy to Ukraine. He is not an ally to Putin, like others who have brought ignominy on the meaning of being an American. He is inexperienced, swayable and caught in a storm of politics. In the past he pledged his support to Ukraine. He must be reminded of that fact. To be determined is whether he will ultimately succumb to politics or be bound by conscience. Instead of creating posts denouncing the Speaker and attacking him personally, I humbly suggest that you make the case for support to Ukraine, and communicate it directly to his office. Urge others to do the same. Appeal to him from a posture of respect. Pray for this man. Burn no bridges. The mission is victory for Ukraine. We must stay on target.

russia killed them. they were a happy family, slept peacefully, and planned the morning together… a family of Christian evangelists killed by russians on March 2 in Odessa. They will never have mornings together again. A small 4-month-old boy and his mother will forever leave this world, the world that could save them, but didn’t. The world where money and own political interests are higher than the price of life. This is the price of procrastination with support of Ukraine. Strong argument, good reasoning, Scradge1! Right, to convince Republicans of the need to act, one has to see the issue from their point of view. So, to bring up evangelicans’ values makes a lot of sense. Also, to remind Reagan Republicans that Russia needs to be reigned in by strength, not appeasement. And the Q-anon movement that Putinstan is among the most horrible deep state countries, where a corrupt and sociopathic regime clique can canduct the most horrible crimes without any concerns about justice. All these groups should be targetted with specifical video ads, to apply pressure from the grassroots on the GOP Representatives. With election date come nearer every day, even Trumpists can’t afford to ignore their voters. Ukraine has strong arguments on its side, even from a rightwing view, but Americans need to hear them! 🤨

Brilliantly expressed and absolutely terrifying. Remember the sick Trumpkov saying “Russia can do whatever the hell they like.” They certainly will. The war must be ended on Ukrainian terms and the putler cheerleaders in the west locked up.
Ukraine has a chronic shortage of combat troops and thanks to the magaputler faction, a chronic shortage of ammo and long range fires.
Scholz must be persuaded to step down over the Taurus affair and intel leaks.
Boris Pistorius is the right man to lead Germany and provide a leading role in the response to putinaZi genocide. It appears that he definitely would send Taurus.
True, Scradge1, but this won’t happen. It takes more than Scholz’ stubborn refusal to deliver Taurus, which nobody understands, to convince the government coalition parties to run the risk of exchanging the Chancellor. Since Scholz still has some political friends left, this most probably would require at least some CDU/CSU representatives to support Pistorius, which isn’t really in their parties’ interest. To succesfully conduct a “vote of no confidence” in Germany is almost as hard as succesful impeachment in the US. And we all know how this ended, despite a very clear case of treason. ☹

This is a very important point that must be hammered home night and day to skeptical people who wonder whether we should continue to support Ukraine economically, militarily, morally. This will be the inexorable finality of the process of annihilation initiated by Moscow if the USA does not meet its obligations by shamefully abandoning Ukraine. If some people think that the war has reached its peak in terms of horror, they would do well to fasten their seat belts if the USA defaults…

The process started again from scratch. Elected officials are considering a new aid plan which would mix conditions as different as aid in the form of loans, frozen assets, results at the borders… McConnell warned them that remodifying framework conditions of aid would torpedo it. I think there are no good intentions in these processes. 0. It’s a bit like the story of the interrogation with the good cop and the bad cop. We try to give an image of responsible people, but in the end what is left? Procrastination, Immaturity and crass cowardice.

This bastard did everything to torpedo aid to kyiv and shows no desire to save a single life in Ukraine. 0. I don’t believe for a single second these stories of pressure on Johnson. Would a normally constituted republican hesitate to ensure the survival of millions of people tyrannized by the new USSR, the safeguarding of the republican spirit, of order, of a certain morality and of respect for the agreements for which the USA was committed? We must not forget one essential thing. Johnson has proposed providing military aid to Israel without taking into account the border issue, while this seems impossible to do when it comes to Ukraine. It says everything about this sinister character and his intentions.
To end on a positive note, I hope at least that the specter of total genocide, which would be announced if aid from Washington were cut off, will shake the Republican spirit and that elected officials will use all the processes at their disposal to vote for aid to Ukraine. Beyond their re-election to Congress or their personal interests.
