On the night of August 7, a series of explosions were heard in several areas of occupied Crimea, including near the Gvardiyske airfield. According to eyewitnesses, a fuel and lubricants warehouse caught fire. It later emerged that the Ukrainian military had struck an early warning radar station, UAV repeaters, and other Russian military facilities.
The explosions on the peninsula were reported by the Telegram channel “Crimean Wind” with links to its subscribers. Eyewitnesses also shared photos and videos of the aftermath of the explosions.
In particular, in the area of Cape Fiolent in Sevastopol, according to eyewitnesses, a powerful explosion occurred, which shook windows. It is also known that traffic on the Kerch Bridge was blocked, and in Kerch, locals heard explosions and shooting.
In addition, according to eyewitnesses, a hit was recorded in Feodosia, probably on a cluster of equipment in the area of the former 13th military town on the Kerch highway.
According to locals, several hits also occurred at the Gvardiyske airfield. As a result, a fuel and lubricants warehouse caught fire, and the detonation of small arms ammunition was heard. According to subscribers, the hits were recorded between 03:30 and 03:39 and from 04:34 to 04:47.
Eyewitnesses claim that the fire was very large and illuminated the surrounding area for several kilometers. At the same time, it is reported that two separate centers of fire were visible at the airfield. From this airfield, the Russian military launches Shahed drones.
As of the time of publication, the occupation authorities had not commented on the situation.
The General Staff provided details
According to the General Staff, an early detection radar station near Olenivka and a place for storing, preparing, and launching strike drones in the Gvardiyske area were hit in Crimea .
It was also confirmed that two ground-based repeaters for controlling strike UAVs of the “Geran”/”Gerbera” type were destroyed – in Olenivka in occupied Crimea and in Zalizny Port, Kherson region.
The military explained that ground-based repeaters provide stable communication and command transmission between operators and strike drones, which allows for increased range and effectiveness of their use.
As OBOZ.UA reported, explosions were heard in temporarily occupied Crimea on the night of August 5, after which power supply was cut off in some areas. An air alert was declared due to the threat of drone attacks, and local residents reported the work of air defense.
