A major was detained in the Odessa region for using military personnel to build a house with a swimming pool.

A military unit commander who, over several months, had been recruiting his subordinates to help build his private home was detained in the Odessa region.

According to the prosecutor’s office press service, 83 military personnel were found performing construction work during a search of the site. The use of military trucks to deliver construction materials was also documented.

“The evidence collected demonstrates the systemic nature of such actions. This is not just about the illegal use of state resources. It is also about the distraction of military personnel from their primary duties, which, in wartime, directly impacts the unit’s combat readiness,” the department emphasized.

The major was detained and charged under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This charge carries a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.

The issue of choosing a preventive measure is currently being decided.
