73% of Ukrainians support restoring the country’s nuclear status, poll finds

If the price of nuclear status is the loss of support and sanctions from the West, then support for such an idea decreases.

73% of Ukrainians generally have a positive attitude towards the idea of restoring nuclear weapons in Ukraine, according to a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

20% are against the restoration of the nuclear status, another 7% are undecided. At the same time, if, under the condition of the restoration of nuclear weapons, the West stops supporting Ukraine and imposes sanctions against Kyiv, then the favorable attitude decreases to 46%. Another 44% in this case are against the restoration of nuclear weapons. Another 10% have undecided views.

At the same time, provided that Ukraine has enough resources to hold out until it obtains nuclear weapons, 58% would be willing to lose Western support in order to obtain nuclear weapons. 33% are against such a scenario, and another 8% are undecided.

Restoration of Ukraine’s nuclear status

In the fall of 2024, discussions resumed on restoring Ukraine’s nuclear status. In particular, The Times journalists noted that Ukraine could restore its nuclear capability within a few months if Trump limited aid to Kyiv. To do this, Ukraine could use plutonium from spent fuel rods removed from Ukrainian nuclear reactors.

At the same time, Kyiv rejects such possibilities. In particular, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that Ukraine adheres to its status as a non-nuclear state, and therefore there are currently no plans to create a nuclear bomb.

If Belarus can have nukes. There is no reason on earth why Ukraine can’t have them, except for the so-called spineless allies of Ukraine’s whining about excalation.

If North Korea can have nukes, Ukraine can as well!

Ukraine absolutely must be restored as a nuclear power. There shouldn’t be any penalties imposed by allies for doing so, Ukraine has every right to protect and defend it’s sovereignty and renew it’s territorial integrity.
