16 years in a maximum security colony: for the first time in Russia, a military man is being tried for voluntarily surrendering to the Armed Forces of Ukraine

In the Russian Federation, the state prosecution has requested 16 years in a maximum-security colony for Russian serviceman Roman Ivanishin, who is accused for the first time in Russia of voluntarily surrendering to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to the publication “Mediazon”.

As noted, Ivanyshyn is also accused of desertion and attempted voluntary surrender.

He is originally from Sakhalin, joined the army after mobilization and was captured by Ukrainian forces on June 10, 2023, near the village of Stepove, Donetsk region. He returned to Russia in early January 2024 as part of an exchange and came under investigation.

The prosecution claims that Ivanyshyn twice tried to surrender to Ukrainian captivity. On the second attempt, he managed to escape from the territory of the military unit.

Ivanyshyn’s commander, Major Vadym Korotkevych, also claimed that after being captured, his subordinate left the Ukrainian positions and shouted to his colleagues: “Surrender, you won’t get anything for it!” According to him, he ordered to open fire on Ivanyshyn. The Ukrainians began to shoot back and killed two Russian soldiers.

Ivanyshyn himself has not admitted his guilt. The defense insists that the crimes he is accused of have not been proven.
