To preserve peace on the continent, the EU must invest in defense.

Against the background of the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and the repeated threats of the ruler of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, the European Union must prepare for a possible war and take measures for joint armaments.

“He who speaks and acts like Putin does not want peace, but intends to continue,” said the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on the air of the German radio station Deutschlandfunk on Sunday, quoted by DW .

She also emphasized the importance of consistently supporting Ukraine and strengthening its own defense capabilities.

“If we are to maintain peace on our continent, we need to invest in defense,” explained the head of the European Commission.

Ursula von der Leyen recalled the “hybrid attacks” of Russia, including the recent removal of border markings on the border with Estonia, the use of migrants as a tool of confrontation with the EU and attempts to divide Europeans with the help of social networks.

She also noted the positive effect of strengthening the EU’s defense capabilities on the bloc’s economy and appreciated the proposal of Poland and Greece to create a joint air defense system.

“It is important that with the help of the billions that we invest, good jobs are also created here in Europe,” the head of the EC explained.

The threat of the Third World War

The corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Geopolitics and Geostrategy, Candidate of Political Sciences, Stanislav Zhelikhovsky, noted that with the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia on February 24, 2022, the second Cold War ended and the Third World War began . It can last either until the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war, or it will spread to other countries.

In April, The Times wrote that a storm of war is coming to Europe , and if Russia succeeds in Ukraine, there are fears that Putin will continue to invade neighboring EU states.

In May, Bloomberg wrote that the war in Ukraine divided the world. The hostilities in Ukraine became the first global conflict of the new Cold War. Two huge alliances indirectly, but clashed on the battlefield in Europe.
