Zelenskyy: US positive about missile licence issue for first time

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopes that Ukraine will obtain licences to produce anti-ballistic missiles.

Details: Zelenskyy said his optimism is based on positive signals, including those from US President Donald Trump.

Quote: “Strengthening Ukraine’s air defence. On this issue, I have received a positive signal from the entire G7, including President Trump. Licences for the production of our missiles are, for the first time, being viewed positively by the American side.“

“Previously, I had been raising this issue since the administration of president Biden, but we never received anything. And now, God willing, they will conduct all the necessary consultations… with manufacturers, within the administration and with the military. I very much hope they will return with a positive response and that we will be able to obtain the licences.”

Details: Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine has all the capabilities necessary to manufacture such missiles.

Background:

On Tuesday, Zelenskyy said that Trump had responded positively to the proposal to grant Ukraine licences to produce anti-ballistic missiles and expressed hope that the US president would approve the move.
Trump later said that he will consider Ukraine’s request for licences to manufacture interceptor missiles.
Ukrainian and German companies will cooperate on the production of anti-ballistic systems under an agreement signed by Ukraine and Germany in Brussels on 18 June.
In early June, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is working with European and American partners to launch European production of air defence systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.
