Zelenskyy: Ukraine to receive U.S. Patriot and HIMARS missiles

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that in October Ukraine will receive additional funding under the PURL initiative. The total support will rise to over $3 billion

Zelenskyy said this during a joint press conference with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.

The Ukrainian leader said the first two packages under the “Priority Ukraine Requirements List” (PURL) will include missiles for Patriot and HIMARS air defense systems.

“We have received over $2 billion from our partners specifically for the PURL program. In October we will get additional funds. I think it will be about $3–3.5 billion,” Zelenskyy said.

Ukrinform reports the amount could reach $3.5–3.6 billion.

The president clarified that PURL funds will go toward the first two U.S. military aid packages currently being formed, each worth $500 million.

Background: The Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) is a new NATO initiative to provide assistance to Kyiv. Based on Ukrainian requests, it defines a priority list of weapons and ammunition approved by NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, with funding from Alliance members or partners.

“And what will be in these packages? I will not disclose all details — but definitely missiles for Patriot and HIMARS,” Zelenskyy stressed.

  • As of August 14, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Germany had allocated $1.5 billion to Ukraine’s defense needs under PURL.
  • On September 2, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden announced his country would join the initiative, purchasing U.S. weapons for transfer to Ukraine.
