On Tuesday, October 14, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared details of his upcoming visit to the United States and his planned meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump
Zelenskyy announced this in his evening address.
“We are thoroughly preparing for our conversation with President Trump. I held a meeting today with the military, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Energy, the head of Naftogaz, and the Office team — every aspect of the discussion must be worked through so that Ukraine truly becomes stronger,” the president said.
He emphasized that he has already discussed with the U.S. leader possible steps to strengthen military assistance to Ukraine — in particular regarding Patriot systems, Tomahawk missiles, and other weapons.
“It’s important to discuss sensitive issues in person — not everything can be said over the phone. We have a clear vision of how the actions of the United States, Europe, our other partners, and our own steps here in Ukraine can bring the war closer to an end. America’s leadership — President Trump’s leadership — is crucial,” Zelenskyy stressed.
The president added that meetings with representatives of U.S. defense and energy companies are also planned. The main objectives are to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense systems, ensure the resilience of cities and communities, and increase pressure on Russia to achieve peace.
He noted that there is currently a strong global momentum toward peace following recent agreements in the Middle East — proof that Russia can also be pressured to end its aggression.
“In fact, Russia now remains the main source of global instability — a global source of war. It must be shut off. We know how,” Zelenskyy added.
- On October 13, Donald Trump said he was considering transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Russia does not end the war.
- That same day, it was confirmed that Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet the U.S. president in Washington on October 17.
