Zelenskyy Says Ukraine-Poland Relations Have Improved, Emphasizes European Security Cooperation

Oct 17, 2026

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said relations between Ukraine and Poland have improved, stressing that closer cooperation between the two countries is important for European security amid Russia’s war against Ukraine, UATV English reports.

Speaking to journalists on October 17, Zelenskyy thanked Poland, its people and the governments of both countries for their efforts to strengthen bilateral ties. He also praised his meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and expressed gratitude for Warsaw’s continued support for Ukraine.

“The enemy is one — Russia, and it is very concerned that Ukraine and Poland have a strong alliance,” Zelenskyy said.

The president called for further strengthening relations between Kyiv and Warsaw, adding that disagreements should be addressed through dialogue and calm discussions. He expressed confidence that even difficult issues could be resolved.

Zelenskyy said the two countries’ future cooperation should be mutually beneficial and based on mutual respect and a shared interest in strengthening European security.

Ukraine has completed its assigned work on the international Freyja project to develop an anti-ballistic defense system, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on October 17. The project’s partner countries are continuing their work, while Kyiv is seeking to begin testing the first system as soon as possible, UATV English reports.

Speaking to journalists, Zelenskyy said 10 countries are involved in the project and that Ukraine has fulfilled its commitments. Further progress now depends on the work of its international partners.

The president said he had discussed the project in detail with French President Emmanuel Macron. Germany, Denmark and Norway are also playing important roles in its development. Zelenskyy plans to hold further talks with Norwegian representatives next week, given Norway’s involvement in the initiative.

Zelenskyy stressed that developing an indigenous anti-ballistic system is a complex technological challenge that typically takes years of work. However, Ukraine is trying to accelerate the process because of the ongoing threat of Russian attacks.

“People work on systems like these for decades. We want to move very quickly because there is no time — that is the truth. Unfortunately, we face this kind of enemy, and we are working to make this project succeed,” Zelenskyy said.

The president emphasized the need for closer cooperation with international partners to speed up development and bring the first Freyja system to testing. He did not provide a timeline for the tests.

  1. I don’t republish DT articles anymore, but today they have one headed :

How an Italian journalist is whitewashing Putin’s worst war crime
Russia targeted the Mariupol Theatre, filled with 600 civilians including children, in 2022

    Extract :

The word was written with white paint in large, unmistakable Cyrillic letters outside the theatre in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol: “CHILDREN”.

But the Russians paid no heed.

In one of the worst atrocities of an unrelentingly brutal conflict, they bombed the theatre knowing full well that there were hundreds of civilians cowering inside. The roof collapsed. At least 600 people, including many children, died.

But according to a new Russian film, the massacre in March 2022 was carried out not by Vladimir Putin’s forces but by the Ukrainians in an attempt to demonise Moscow.

The “documentary”, called Witnesses, is a brazen piece of Russian disinformation, an attempt to rewrite history. What is surprising is that it is presented by an Italian.

Vittorio Nicola Rangeloni is a journalist whose deeply pro-Moscow views have taken him not just to the occupied territories of the Donbas but also to Africa.

    My comment was :

    Putler is a systematic child-murderer.
The number of documented war crimes is off the scale.
Since the commencement of trump’s second term, these murders have increased exponentially.
The abomination that passes as social media in their cauldron of devilry has shrieks of evil laughter and savage jokes every single time a putler bomb lands on a school, kindergarten, hospital, shopping centre, playground or child’s bed.
Those who produce foul propaganda like this are as complicit in genocide as the US’s Putin-loving president, who never misses an opportunity to promote Kremlin lies.
When campaigning for his second term, trump repeatedly abused, sneered at and lied about Zelensky and Ukraine, promising they would get nothing under his presidency.
Did the US electorate vote for this in spite of, or because of trump’s poisonous hatred of Ukraine?

  2. Well-known pro-Ukraine poster Carpe Jugulum on the same topic :

    ‘attempt to demonise Moscow’
A very obvious question follows. Why? Putin invaded Ukraine intending to subjugate a democratically governed sovereign nation to steal its resources, as admitted by Prighozin before Putin murdered him as well. His invasion was condemned worldwide and in various votes at the UN. ‘Demonisation’ was complete on the first day. Forget the moral dimension for a moment, why would Ukraine risk murdering their own citizens to achieve something already established? Why would a Ukrainian military unit follow those orders? And what are the chances of NOBODY in that unit or above saying anything. It literally makes no sense as a theory.
Then there is a now established fact, Putin’s armed forces are atrocity addicted murdering filth from soldiers to generals
As outright lies go this one is truly pathetic.

  3. Garry Kasparov:

As I wrote over a year ago, it would only take a handful of GOP Senators to stand up to Trump and grind his agenda to a halt until he ceased his actions against Ukraine and on behalf of Russia. Instead, they tweeted and signed letters that Trump ignored. Do something.

  4. Operator Starsky just now :

The russian dictator rejected a ceasefire and doesn’t want to negotiate, which is why Ukraine is literally bombing Saint Petersburg as we speak. Because Ukraine has capacity and justified reasons.

Meanwhile, paid russian imbeciles keep repeating the same old song about Ukraine that “has already lost”. I also noticed that the more the russian swamps burn, the louder they scream.

Their consistency is truly impressive, as if they are parrots who ran away from the zoo where they belong. Because, honestly, I have heard the same in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025… would be really funny to hear similar statements coming from hypothetical Frau Weidewurst in 2027 as well.

I hope you’re having some good coffee, my friends. ☕️☕️

Ps. Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t think parrots should be kept in the zoo. They should roam free, however a few particular species should really visit the Hague.

  5. Joe Thomas :

JD Vance: “Stopping funding for Ukraine is one of the things I’m proudest we’ve done in this administration.”

JD Vance went to Hungary to campaign on behalf of a pro-Russian candidate, Viktor Orban, and then said he is proud of stopping funding to Ukraine. There has never been an administration so anti-Western civilization and so pro-authoritarian leaders like the Trump administration.

  6. Adam Kinzinger ;

Trump waiving sanctions against Russia is the most predictable thing ever.

The silence of some GOP elected officials is likewise the most predictable thing.

Throw the trash out in November. This isn’t funny anymore

  7. Shankar Narayan :

    Senator Jon Ossoff:

“Maybe you saw Trump so desperate that he’s begging Putin for diesel.

But listen to this — at the very same time, the White House is brokering the sale of billions in Russian energy assets to people who fund the Trump family and the Trump campaign.

    Y’all remember Jared Kushner?”

  8. Phillips P. OBRien:

This was the week when the USA-Russia alliance was made formal, to even the most ardent skeptics. And its reality was signed in Ukrainian blood.

Hopefully now Ukraine, and Europe, will understand what they must do.

  9. Shaun Pinner :

Four days. No response from the Pentagon or SpaceX.

Denys Sienik, Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Washington, says Ukraine still cannot confirm that Starshield’s full capabilities have been restored, despite requests for answers.

These communications help protect people from Russian aerial attacks. For those of us living and working in Ukraine, this is personal.

Who authorised the restrictions? What impact have they had? And has full service actually been restored?

Russia remains responsible for its attacks, but that does not absolve anyone of responsibility for decisions that could leave us more exposed to them.

We deserve answers. Silence is unacceptable. 🇺🇦

  10. Cemil Kerimoglu

The civilized world should have long ago launched a holy crusade against this vile abomination called Russia. Russian cities, above all Moscow and St. Petersburg, should have been carpet-bombed into oblivion long ago.

But if the West is too meek, too pathetic to do that, humanity’s hope lies in Ukrainians – the finest human beings on Earth in our day and age. Ukraine is doing a great service to humanity. Russia must burn.

  11. Aaron Parnas :

Urgent update: Russia orders military to make Ukrainian cities ‘uninhabitable.’ Trump assists. Republicans say his agenda is dead.

Meanwhile, No Kings Day protests grow across the country. Meta shuts down their account.

  12. Joe Thomas :

Katie Zacharia partly got fired because she implied she was a lawyer, but she wasn’t, but Trump had to close down Trump University because it wasn’t actually a university. Being a liar is generally a plus to be part of the Trump administration. Katie’s problem was she wasn’t a good liar, not that she was a liar.

  13. Andrew Chakhoyan :

How can anyone with a functioning brain and a beating heart struggle to grasp the most obvious thing?

Ukraine wants peace more than anyone on the planet. Ukraine wants the war to end, and it’s doing everything in its power to end it. Ukraine offered to hold back fire a million times, but russia just can’t stop wanting to murder Ukrainians for daring to exist.

  14. I looked at TVP World to see what their take on the “improved relations” with Ukraine was, but found nothing. There was this though :

“Ukraine has urged Poland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia to allow grain shipments through their territories as Russian attacks nearly halt exports via the Black Sea, Hungarian PM Péter Magyar said.
Magyar said Hungary would allow Ukrainian grain to transit the country, provided it was destined for other markets.”
