Zelenskyy comments on putin’s words that open letter was “boorish”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he had sent an open letter to russian president vladimir putin and raised the issue of a possible framework for ending the war. There were two versions of the letter, and he chose the less confrontational one.

The Ukrainian President spoke about this in an interview with Sky News.

The Ukrainian President noted that, in his assessment, a segment of russian society perceives the war in a distorted manner, denying the fact of aggression. He also said that he considers it necessary to change the information environment in russia, which, in his words, is limited due to the blocking of certain communication resources.

During the conversation, the journalist asked Zelenskyy if the first version of the letter was harsh.

“You didn’t read the first version,” the President replied.

Separately, Zelenskyy stated that putin is commenting less publicly on the course of the war due to russian troop losses on the front lines.

In the same conversation, the Ukrainian President expressed the view that the quickest path to the start of diplomatic negotiations might be a ceasefire along the current front line. He explained that maintaining current positions, in his view, could open the possibility for Ukrainian troops to return home and focus on the diplomatic process.

Zelenskyy also proposed a format for a direct meeting with the russian side to discuss ending the war.

What letter from Zelenskyy are we talking about?

Volodymyr Zelenskyy published an open letter to vladimir putin proposing to end the war through direct dialogue and to agree on a date for a meeting.

In response, putin stated that he had reviewed the letter and allegedly did not refuse to meet with Zelenskyy, but opposed discussions without a concrete outcome. The russian dictator called the letter “rude.” He also said that hostilities would end once russia had achieved its own goals.

In response, Zelenskyy called putin’s reaction weak and stated the need to increase economic pressure on russia.
