Zelenskyy calls Trump’s victory “special day” and mentions Ronald Reagan

6 November 2024

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has once again congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election and, in this context, recalled former US President Ronald Reagan’s famous words “peace through strength”.

Source: Zelenskyy in a video message broadcast on social media

Quote: “Today is truly a special day, as one piece of news is capturing global attention. The compelling result of the election in the United States. President Trump’s clear leadership. I congratulate him on this victory.”

Details: Zelenskyy says it was “extremely important” for him to hear Trump’s “peace through strength” words, which he used during his previous presidency from 2016 to 2020.

The Ukrainian president believes that “the US and the whole world will definitely benefit from this policy”.

Quote: “It is no coincidence that Ronald Reagan is now so often mentioned [as he also frequently repeated the phrase ‘peace through strength’] – people want confidence, they want freedom, they want a normal life.”

Details: Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine needs a “strong America” and “strong allies” in general.

The president added that after his meeting with Trump in the United States, their teams engaged with each other. Back then, they discussed defence, the economy and “the future after the war”.

Quote: “We have the potential for stronger cooperation. This is what will make Ukraine, America, and the entire free world more successful.”

Previously:

  • On 5 November, Americans elected Donald Trump as their 47th president. The vote count is now unequivocally indicative of this, and the official announcement of the victor will be made later.
  • Even Trump’s rival in the presidential race, Kamala Harris, congratulated him on his victory.
  • Zelenskyy and a number of other world leaders also expressed their congratulations to Donald Trump.

  1. Personally, it’ll be a frigid day in hell before I will even start comparing Donald Trump with Ronald Reagan. Even if Trump were to kick Vlad in his teeth. Trump has sent out all the wrong signals, telling positive things about an obvious war criminal, and trouncing on Ukraine aid. So, even if he were to act differently than what he said, he still hoodwinked everyone, which is something an honorable man like Reagan would never have done.
But, I understand Zelensky’s careful walk over the political tightrope. The orange felon has a weak spot in his dark heart and that spot is called narcissism, and Zelensky is tickling it as much as he can. I just hope he won’t do it to the point of embarrassment.

    • OFP depression can’t describe my feelings. It’s already a frigid day in hell. Trump says he has a mandate…bullshit. He received the “never Biden/Harris” vote. I’m looking for a silver lining and just can’t see it yet, but I know there will be one.
