Zelensky: Western help is too slow, every decision is a year late

According to him, one step forward is preceded by two steps back.

Western allies are taking too long to decide on military support for Ukraine .

President Vladimir Zelensky stated this in an interview with the international agency Reuters . He described the provision of military assistance, particularly air defense systems such as the Patriot systems that Ukraine relies heavily on in its war with Russia, as “one big step forward, but two steps back.”

“Every decision we come to is about a year late,” Zelensky said on Monday, May 20.

His harsh remarks came at a dangerous time for Kyiv’s troops, when Russia is superior in numbers and weapons at the front, advancing in the northeast and east of the country.

Clearly frustrated by delays and slowdowns from partners in the West, Zelensky suggested ways in which allies could help more directly, particularly by shooting down Russian missiles over Ukrainian territory under certain circumstances.

According to the Ukrainian leader, the situation in the northeast of the country is now under control after Moscow’s troops crossed the border and began invading the city of Kharkov.

    • It’s not just Biden, it’s all allies.
Ukraine requires allied air shielding as well as deployment of allied forces in Ukraine.

  1. He’s right to criticize this, but he also should make suggestions for improvements. Like, a coordination office at Nato, endowed with its own budget to make necessary purchases and ensure a steady flow of supplies. You really have to show those heads of state the way, like kids at a kindergarten. 🙄
