President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that financial compensation from Russia for the damages caused is of fundamental importance for Ukraine, regardless of how it is formulated – reparations or compensation.

Commenting on US President Donald Trump’s position on possible reparations from Russia, Zelensky was reminded of Trump’s statement that Vladimir Putin allegedly “wants to see Ukraine succeed” and would help in its reconstruction.

“First of all, we are interested in Russia giving us money and that it be reparations. The Americans don’t call it reparations, but compensation. Because, I think, they don’t really like the word reparations, to be honest,” the President of Ukraine said.

Zelensky stressed that for Ukraine, obtaining the funds necessary to restore the state after a full-scale war is crucial .
