Zelensky thanked Trump at least six times during the hour-long conversation

The White House did not say whether Trump thanked him for anything in return.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz released a statement following talks between Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky .

“President Zelenskyy thanked President Trump for the productive start of the Ukrainian and American teams’ work in Jeddah on March 11. The meeting of senior representatives from both countries significantly helped in moving towards ending the war,” the statement said .

Zelensky reportedly thanked Trump for U.S. support, especially the Javelin missiles he provided first, and his efforts to achieve peace . The leaders agreed to continue working together between Ukraine and America to achieve a real end to the war and a lasting peace under President Trump’s leadership.

The two leaders also agreed on a partial ceasefire involving energy facilities. They agreed that this could be a first step toward ending the war permanently and ensuring security. Zelensky expressed gratitude for Trump’s leadership on this issue and reiterated his readiness to accept a full ceasefire.

Zelensky also thanked Trump for continuing to work on humanitarian issues , including the prisoner exchange. He noted that a successful exchange had recently taken place and thanked the president for his leadership on the issue.

Trump’s conversation with Zelensky – details

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump spoke by phone. They discussed further steps to “implement and expand” the partial ceasefire, raised the issue of strengthening Ukrainian air defense, as well as the possibility of releasing prisoners of war and returning deported Ukrainian children.

Trump offered Zelensky “help manage the electric and nuclear power plants in Ukraine .” In his opinion, this would be the best means of protecting Ukrainian infrastructure.
