Ukraine and Sweden have agreed to localize the production of JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets on Ukrainian territory.

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this during a meeting with journalists, according to Suspilne.

“The main point is that we have agreed on the localization of Gripen production. I believe this is a historic agreement,” the head of state emphasized.

According to the President, the overall demand for Ukraine’s future combat aviation is for a fleet of 250 new aircraft.

Previously, Sweden had agreed to sell Ukraine 100–150 Gripen E fighter jets.

Deliveries of the new Gripen E jets are possible three years after the contract is signed. Saab is already capable of producing 20–30 aircraft per year but is preparing to further increase production rates.

In addition to expanding its facilities in Linköping, Saab plans to boost aircraft output at its joint plant with Embraer in Brazil. Implementing these plans may take one to two years.

Yes, it is. This not only strengthens Ukraine’s defense capabilities, but provides valuable workplaces for highly skilled workers, and it shows that Sweden believes in Ukraine’s ability to remain a free country.

  2. I have said for years Ukraine needs to develop closer ties with sweden. The Swedes have a broad MIC with a number of weapon systems that are perfect for Ukraine needs particularly the Gripen.
I am glad this is finally started happen.
