Zelensky signed the law on a single roaming zone with the EU. What does it mean

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the law on a single roaming zone with the European Union.

This was reported in the press service of the Verkhovna Rada.

“The President signed the law “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Implementation of European Union Legislation on Roaming” (draft law No. 10265 ). The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted this law in the second reading and as a whole on May 22,” the message reads.

It is noted that it was adopted to fulfill one of the conditions of Ukraine’s European integration in the field of electronic communications. In particular, the law provides for the joining of Ukraine to the common roaming zone of Ukrainef-EU and the receipt by Ukrainians of roaming services in the countries of the European Union in the mode “Roaming like at home” (RLAH).

In addition, thanks to the law, the investment climate for business in the field of electronic communications is expected to improve significantly.

RLAH is a service that means that when traveling in the EU, calls, SMS and data are included in the home service package, so roaming services are provided at no additional cost. Users of European operators traveling to Ukraine will also be able to take advantage of the common roaming zone.

Roaming in Europe

On July 9, 2023, the European Commission agreed to extend for another 12 months the agreement with operators that allows refugees from Ukraine to stay connected abroad.

The agreement between 22 European and seven Ukrainian operators was first signed in April 2022. It provides for a mutual reduction of tariffs in roaming.
