On Wednesday, February 16, on Unity Day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky published a televised address.
It was broadcast by Ukrainian channels, including 1 + 1.
“Great people of a great country, good morning to you! Today is an important day – the Day of Unity of all of us. We are different, of different ages, of different sexes, from different cities, regions, different professions, different talents, different knowledge, languages, religions. But it unites us one desire: to live in peace, happily, as one family, with children, with parents. And we have every right to all this. Because we are at home, we are in Ukraine. And no one will love our house the way we love And no one, only we can protect our home together,” the head of state addressed the Ukrainians.

(C)UNIAN 2022

Happy Day of Unity to everyone visiting here! UA together, wherever you are. I encourage everyone to keep fighting evil, keep fighting thieves, keep fighting liars, keep fighting murderers, keep fighting torturers, keep fighting invaders and keep fighting those that would take our freedom. Freedom is granted by God, not government, and certainly not by Vladimir Putin.

Bhaaaaaahaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!
I’m guessing he’s trying to encourage among Ukrainians, a patriotism similar to the mutual bonds that Americans all used to bond over. To encourage the people to feel a sort of brotherhood towards fellow citizens, like what many devoted sports fans feel in cheering for their team, except to feel that way towards cheering for themselves and their country. I say Americans used to feel this way, because we generally felt a deep sadness for the victims of disasters like 9/11, and for the Pearl Harbor attack. Then this quickly turned into a long-lasting fiery desire for vengeance against the group that started it. World War 2, and fighting the Japanese Empire, then also the nazis. Admiral Yamamoto of the Japanese also recognized the consequences of Pearl Harbor when he said, “We have woken a sleeping giant, and filled him with terrible resolve.” So while Ukraine has fewer resources to devote to a war, I think Zelensky is trying to inspire a patriotic devotion for Ukrainians to fight a dedicated guerrilla war against Russian occupation. Winston Churchill’s “We shall NEVER surrender” speech was also meant in the same way for the British too. Regardless of political feelings, I think it’s good to unite to passionately fight against hostile occupation.
Arg. My earlier comment wasn’t initially posted. Well, I’ll use this one to post Winston Churchill’s speech about the nazis trying to invade and occupy Britain. I know I can’t post all of it.
“ Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous states have — have fallen or may fall into the — the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of the Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.
We shall go on to the end!
We shall fight in France.
We shall fight on the seas and the oceans.
We shall fight with — with growing confidence and growing strength in the air.
We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be!
We shall fight on the beaches
We shall fight on the landing grounds.
We shall fight in the fields and in the streets.
We shall fight in the hills.
We shall never surrender!
And if — And if, which I — I do not for a moment believe, this island or large part of it were…subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World with all its power and might steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old!”
Churchill had also created a secret plan and support for the Brits to wage a constant guerrilla war against nazi occupation. WW 2 was a dark time, but I think Zelensky is trying to bring Ukrainians together to feel encouraged in a similar sentiment to what used to inspire the West. As an American, I find it sad that I must say the past tense of my country. I hope biden burns in hell alongside his manipulative “friend,” putin.
