The President noted that it is necessary to communicate with people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would very much like Ukrainians to return home, but “without coercion.” He said this during his press conference as part of the “Ukraine 2024. Independence” forum, answering a question about the creation of the Ministry of Unity and the fact that he allegedly asked Western partners to facilitate the return of men of draft age to Ukraine.

“Nobody had such a challenge: how to bring back 7.5 million people… We have 10.8 million pensioners. And if we do not bring back 7.5 and do not bring all taxpayers out of the shadows, we have a serious challenge: how to feed our pensioners,” Zelensky said.

According to the president, Ukraine needs to return its adult population, children, and students.

“Without coercion. Create all the conditions so that they want to do it. We need to communicate with them. I know that there is a percentage of people who simply cannot find work,” the president noted. “First of all, this concerns Poland and Germany, where most of our Ukrainians are.”

In his opinion, such a Ministry of Unity is very important:

“Today we need to develop a policy for this institution and make this decision in the fall.”

Speaking about the return of the men, the head of state noted that “politically it is not very advantageous to say within certain states that ‘we are sending Ukrainians home’ and ‘it is very expensive for us to support them’.”

“It’s easier to raise this issue at a meeting with the President of Ukraine, and then say that ‘the President has asked for the Ukrainians to return.’ Of course, I’m all for it if the Ukrainians come. But without coercion,” he said. “I’m for them to come. I would really like all the Ukrainians to be here. Provided they decide.”

As UNIAN reported, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has lost 3.5 million jobs .

“We have effectively lost 30% of our economy, our GDP, in 2022. Today, in order to support our military, we must have at least 10 million jobs,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, currently in Ukraine there are officially less than 8 million jobs.

  1. This topic is yet another one that puts the West in a dark shadow of shame. The adult males escaped from Ukraine illegally, and this should be reason enough for Germany, Poland, et al to send them back to Ukraine. Ukraine needs every person, not only for the army, but for the economy. All these so-called friends are two-faced hypocrites.
