The president expressed his thoughts on the conditions for ending the war yesterday in a conversation with European leaders.

Ukraine is prepared to withdraw troops from the current line of contact to create a demilitarized zone, but only on the condition that Russia does the same. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly told European leaders this during a phone call on December 27 , the Financial Times reported , citing informed sources.

According to the publication’s sources, the Ukrainian leader wants the West to provide Ukraine with reliable security guarantees in exchange, along with a clear algorithm for allies’ actions in the event of violations by Russia.

Zelensky also outlined other points of the peace plan to the Europeans:

• stable funding for the Defence Forces;
• Allied assistance in strengthening Ukraine’s air defences, including the presence of European troops on the ground;
• decisions regarding territories can only be made after a referendum, for which the necessary security conditions must also be ensured;
• The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant must be placed under international control, and the electricity it produces must be distributed between free and occupied territories.

According to sources, Zelensky admitted in a conversation with Europeans that he does not expect Moscow to agree to Ukraine’s proposed plan and therefore wants the US to increase pressure on Russia.
