Zelensky about anti-Semitism: Ukrainians do not care whether their president is Jew, Christian or Muslim

According to the president, even having Jewish roots, he has never been a target for anti-Semitic statements in Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is the country of Eastern Europe with the lowest rate of anti-Semitism. Besides, it condemns any expression of aggression against Jews as The Jerusalem Post reported.

Answering the question about the attack on Hasidim Jews in Uman, Zelensky noted that the close cooperation and coordination take place with the local authorities and the representatives of the Jewish community in Ukraine and Uman for the protection of pilgrims.

“We strongly condemn anti-Semitic attacks of any kind. Antisemitism is a poison that has no place in Ukraine. In this case, we faced a lot of disinformation campaigns. We respond to every anti-Semitic aggression,” the president said.

Besides, the president underlined that Ukraine is the country of Eastern Europe with the lowest rate of anti-Semitism and even having Jewish roots, he has never been a target for anti-Semitic statements in Ukraine.

“Ukrainian people do not care whether their President is Jewish, Christian or Muslim, as long as he defends the interests of the Ukrainian people,” he underlined.

On the night of August 27-28, a conflict between locals and Hasidic pilgrims who were not allowed to attend the burial place of spiritual leader Nachman broke out in Uman, Cherkasy region.
