Z-bloggers reported the possible cancellation of the Victory Day parade in Moscow due to new Ukrainian missiles

8 April 2026

Russian authorities may cancel the May 9 Victory Day Parade in Moscow and St. Petersburg due to Ukraine’s new long-range missiles. Z-bloggers began reporting this in early April, as reported by the publication “Mozhem Obysheniya” (We Can Explain). “Imagine, ‘Parade, stand at attention,’ and then a missile threat is declared. What will happen in and around the square? It will be a significant blow in terms of media coverage, even if nothing hits,” pro-war blogger Ilya Tumanov said on Soloviev LIVE.

According to him, the parade’s aerial portion has already been canceled. A rehearsal for the ground portion was also scheduled for Sunday, April 5, but the troops were told they were departing for their permanent bases “until further notice.” Tumanov suggested the event could be rescheduled, as was the case in 2020 due to the pandemic. Meanwhile, the Kremlin responded evasively to the question of the parade’s cancellation. “We are preparing for Victory Day celebrations,” said Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president’s press secretary.

Ukraine recently developed the Flamingo cruise missile, which was unveiled last August. Its stated range is 3,000 km (the distance from Moscow to the Ukrainian border is 450 km), and its warhead weighs 1 ton. The Flamingo has been used at least twice: in February, Russia’s largest missile plant in the Perm region was hit, and in March, an explosives manufacturing facility in the Samara region.

Ukraine is also developing the FP-9 ballistic missile, which will begin testing this summer. It has the potential to strike targets at ranges of up to 850 km. The missile’s warhead is expected to weigh 800 kg. Due to its high speed and altitude, the ballistic missile should be a difficult target to intercept.

Since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Russian authorities have significantly scaled back military parades in Moscow. In 2022, the airborne component was cancelled, and the number of ground vehicles was sharply reduced compared to the previous year. In 2023, the number of vehicles was reduced by another quarter, including the disappearance of tanks (except for three T-34s from the Great Patriotic War), and the absence of aircraft. In 2024, aircraft returned, but only 15. The 2025 anniversary parade was larger, but inferior to the pre-war 2021 parade in terms of personnel and equipment. Military parades in Moscow to mark Victory Day have been held annually since 1995.

      • I have noticed there are more of these bloggers whining about the military, although none of them criticise dear leader.
